Sales of real estate in Cyprus in the domestic and foreign markets
In May 2021, property sales in the domestic and foreign markets of Cyprus increased by 123% compared to a year ago.
Interest in domestic sales of residential real estate was stimulated by government support through subsidized interest rates and a decline to a record low of 2.5%. At the same time, the data will contain an indefinite number of “non-sale” agreements: for example, collection of funds, restructuring of debt on a loan, exchange of debts for assets that were concluded between insolvent borrowers and banks in order to reduce overdue loan portfolios. The Cyprus Department of Lands and Land Administration does not separately disseminate data.
The overseas market also saw a 34% increase in sales compared to May 2020. However, it will take some time for a full recovery of the indicators, since recently there have been restrictions on travel for foreigners in connection with the COVID-19 epidemic.
