May 2021 saw an increase in property sales in Cyprus. 81% more sales and purchase agreements were deposited with land registries in comparison with the previous year. Compared to 2019, there is an increase of up to 36%.
The positive trend is primarily due to the opening of borders. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cyprus has been completely closed from March 24, 2020 to June 9, even for commercial flights.
According to the Land Registry, real estate sales reached 2018 levels, with 3,612 successful deals in the first five months.
On the recommendation of the Cyprus Department of Lands and Land Administration, it is not worth comparing the level of sales in 2018 with subsequent ones, as the methodology that classifies foreigners has been changed.
