Property sales in Cyprus for EU citizens and foreigners

In May 2020, sales of real estate in Cyprus to EU citizens increased to 177%, almost reaching the level of 2018, when the figure for the first five months was 539 sales. For those who are not citizens of the European Union, buying real estate is quite difficult. This is due to the cancellation of the controversial Citizenship by Investment scheme, also known as the Golden Passport. Al-Jazeera Arab TV channel investigated and exposed the program.

Most of the transactions for the sale of real estate are carried out in Limassol.

Investigation in the case of "Golden Passports"


According to local media reports, the loss of Cypriot citizenship threatens 22 foreigners. As a result, 44 people will lose their "golden passports". The investigation report of the case states that another 100 individuals were classified as "high risk". The intentions of the Committee to revoke the citizenship of foreign investors and their families for political and criminal offenses. The trial under the “golden passports” scheme was postponed from May 24 to June 26.
